  • Why is the Town enforcing timed parking downtown?
    Enforcement will keep cars rotating out of parking spaces, opening spaces for customers on a regular basis.
  • What are the hours of parking enforcement?
    Two-hour parking is Monday – Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM 24-hour parking is enforced 24-365 No overnight parking on Midland between east Homestead Drive and Midland Spur is enforced 24-365 * Parking is enforced on holidays
  • What is the area that is being enforced for ā€œdowntownā€ parking?
    Refer to parkbasalt.com for a detailed map. Generally, the downtown enforcement area is on Midland Avenue from east Homestead Drive to the bridge over the Roaring Fork River, Midland Spur and Two Rivers Road from west Homestead Drive to the bridge over the Fryingpan River.
  • Where is the best place for daytime employee parking?
    There are 225 24-hour spaces in the downtown area. In addition, parking is available at Basalt Elementary School from June 1st – August 17th and at the RFTA Basalt Park & Ride at Basalt Avenue and Highway 82 in the south lot. The south lot is located just south of East Cody Lane along Basalt Avenue.
  • Is the Town charging for parking?
    No, there will be no cost for parking.
  • What transportation alternatives exist for getting into downtown?
    Regional transportation is provided through RFTA – visit www.rfta.com. Free local rides (within Basalt) can be requested through Basalt Connect - visit www.basalt.net/basaltconnect. Free bike share on WE-cycle - visit https://www.we-cycle.org/.
  • Has the Town changed the rules around parking enforcement in the downtown?
    Yes, the town updated rules to change the 72-hour parking to 24-hour parking to avoid long-term storage of vehicles. In addition, an area of two-hour parking was added on Two Rivers Road in front of the commercial businesses at the River Park Lofts Condominiums.
  • If I park at the RFTA Basalt Park & Ride lot or at the Basalt Elementary School, what is the best way into downtown?
    From the elementary school you can take a two-minute walk along Swinging Bridge Trail. This is a well-lit and safe trail that is signed with clear direction into downtown. To access the trail, take the metal stairs down to the trail directly across from the elementary school driveway. Alternatively, you can travel in either direction on Cottonwood Avenue to reach downtown. From the RFTA Basalt Park & Ride lot, there is free transportation via WE-cycle or Basalt Connect. Both can be accessed via downloadable apps. It’s also an easy walk under the Highway 82 underpass and across the pedestrian bridge over the Roaring Fork River.
  • Where can I park if I have a boat or trailer?
    There are a few areas along Two Rivers Road that have been identifiedfor temporary boat and RV parking. Refer to the map at parkbasalt.com for more information. Look for the trailer icons for specific locations.
  • How many parking spaces are there downtown?
    225 24-hour parking spaces and 119 2-hour parking spaces.
  • Is there camping allowed in vehicles in the downtown area?
    Camping is not permitted on public property in Basalt, including town streets without prior authorization. See the Basalt Municipal Code, Chapter 11 Streets, Sidewalks and Public Property, Article 5 Use Restrictions, Section 11-115- Camping or lodging on property without consent in the Municipal Code.
  • Where can I find the parking rules in the Town Code?
    Town Code Section 8-2 establishes Time Parking Zones in the Town. Section 8-4 provides the traffic control schedule to regulate parking restrictions on the Town’s streets. Town Code Appendix C sets forth the Town’s fines, penalties, and administrative fees.
  • If I get a violation, how much does it cost?
    Violations are $60 – please note that unpaid fines may be sent to a collection agency.
  • How do I dispute a violation?
    All disputes must be made online at parkbasalt.com/violations.
  • How do I pay for a violation?
    Violations can be paid online at parkbasalt.com/violations or by check. More information can also be found on the violation envelope.
